So you want to get baptized . . .

Congratulations! If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you are ready to be baptized.

Baptism is an important step of obedience that shows others we have personally trusted Jesus for our salvation. Jesus was baptized when He was on the earth, and we also do this to follow His example. When Christians are baptized, they are submerged under water to identify with the death and burial of Jesus and then raised out of the water to identify with His resurrection. We believe that water baptism is a public declaration of three important things: You are a follower of Jesus Christ, you are beginning a changed life in Christ, and you are part of a new family.

There are two reasons you should be baptized:

Obedience

In Matthew 28:19, Jesus instructed us to be baptized as an act of obedience. Jesus himself was baptized! We want to follow his example and honor his guidance. While baptism is not necessary for salvation, it demonstrates submission to God.

Identification

Just as a name tag lets everyone know your name, baptism identifies you as a Christian. It’s a public way to celebrate that your sins have been cleansed and to announce you are in a relationship with Christ.
